My first article

In this world, there are two things that makes me happy. First has got to be being with my family and the second one is going for a vacation. Even better when the two things are combined. Everything started with when my brother said that he wanted to go that one place. That one place that is like a dream come true for some people, which for us, is really like a dream come true too. It all started when my brother mentioned that he wanted to  go to that one place, as a joke. It was just a joke among my siblings and I but we decided to just let our parents know even though we know that they well definitely disagree because they do not enjoy going to a place like that.

The next thing we know, our parents agreed. They agreed and we could not be any happier. It was dream come true for us. We never thought that they would agree, and, that one place is Universal Studios Singapore. It is a theme park located within Resorts World Sentosa on Sentosa Island, Singapore. Hence why our parents did not want to go along as they think that they will not really do anything there and decided to just let us siblings go. We were actually having our semester break that time and wanted to go straight away but then there was only a week left till the new semester begins and it was too much of a rush if go that time. We ended up just waiting for the next semester break which was the last semester’s break.

We got our air tickets ready, our accommodation ready and most importantly ourselves ready. We decided to go for 4 days 3 nights which is quite a short trip and we did not go straight away to Singapore but we decided to stay in Johor as we have never been there and also wanted to experience going to Singapore by land instead of air. Before we fly off, few days before our departure date, we did a research online on the famous spots or attractions in Singapore since we will spend a day in Singapore for Universal Studios and another day to just walk around the city.

On the actual day of our trip,  we flew off from Kuching to Johor. Upon arriving, we checked in to our hotel and decided to take a short rest before we head to eat in the evening. We went to IKEA and ate the famous swedish meatballs there. We then decided to just walk around there before we head back to our hotel as my brother had a meet up with his friend there. We bought foods for take away to eat at night since we did not want to go out anymore. It was a short day for us because we wanted to get ready for the next day which is going to be along day as we were finally heading to Singapore for Universal Studios. Before the night ends, we made sure we have packed all the essentials needed for the next day especially our passports.

The next day arrives, it was finally the day where we will be he heading to Singapore. We woke up early on that day to get ready. We will be going there by bus that we have booked through a travel agent along with our Universal Studios tickets as well. It was quite a long journey to our destination for us due to the heavy traffic and we also have to through immigration check. Since we were using bus, we have to get down by ourselves to the immigration counter and there was a long queue as well and everyone was in a rush too. To cut it short, we went through immigration, rode the bus back and straight away went to Universal Studios. We spent our day there riding rides and we also went to the famous and apparently, the must-go attraction in the theme park, the world’s tallest pair of duelling roller coaster, the Battlestar Galactica: Human vs. Cylon. We went on the Cylon coaster which was an inverted coaster and the most extreme ride. The ride was totally insane. I was not myself right after the ride ended and actually regretted going on it but at the same time I was proud that I did, considering it is the most extreme ride. That was definitely the highlight of the day and we had to rush to get back to Johor at 6 so we could not really get on a lot of rides because all of the rides had a really long queue too. We reached Johor at 9 P.M. and bought foods at the convenience store at the lobby of our hotel as we were too tired and it was already late as well. Of course, when we were at Universal Studios, we did not miss the chance to take pictures in front of the famous “globe”.

On the third day, we went to Singapore again to walk around the city. This time we went there by taxi which was much easier than using the bus because we did not have to go out for the immigration check. Before we start our day, we had our breakfast at the famous Singapore Zam Zam restaurant. Then we decided to walk to the nearest train station. While walking, we managed to capture bits by bits the picturesque view of Singapore. At the train station, we bought our tickets and rode the train to head to Gardens by the Bay. We did not spend a lot of time there because the weather was scorching hot and we could not stand it. We then went to The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands which is a shopping mall and bought drinks to cool down ourselves. We also went to ION Orchard Mall to just walk around then we went to have our lunch at Yi Zun Beef Noodle which is located at Sam Leong Road. It is a Halal-certified restaurant that serves noodles and other Chinese delicacies. The restaurant is operated by a Chinese-Muslim couple. Last but not least, before we head back to Johor, we cannot miss going to Singapore’s iconic statue, the Merlion. We went to the Merlion Park, took some pictures and walk around a bit longer before we head back and it was already getting to the peak hour and we did not want to face the heavy traffic.

To end our day, we had our dinner at a Korean restaurant in Johor and then went back to pack our stuffs because we will be heading home the next day. It was truly a wonderful trip with my siblings even though it was short. We wished that our parents were there as well with us.
